This week the team has created some rather informative and interesting facts. Enjoy these facts and learn something new about the events occurring in our world.
1. Sugar is as addictive as cocaine. According to studies, people usually enjoy the dopamine that sugar brings. Due to the addictive nature of sugar, it is responsible for many health diseases such as obesity and diabetes if it is overindulged. Sugar can develop emotional and psychological dependence.
2. Betrayed by his best friend, Julius Caesar was assassinated on March 15th, 44 BC. Julius was responsible for the transformation of Rome from a republic to an empire. He led Roman armies in the Gallic wars and brought military and political success to Rome before meeting his death by 23 stabs.
3. The first Olympic race was won by a chef. Coroebus of Elis was a Greek chef and baker who won the first Olympic race. The first thing he did with his prize money was to hire a cook and an agent. In the first recorded Olympic games, held in 77 BCE, Coroebus won the 600-foot-long Stadian sprint race.
4. Glaciers and ice sheets hold approximately 96% of the world’s fresh water. A Guide to the World’s Fresh Water Resources claims that 68.7% of this fresh water is located at the poles. This fresh water is found in the form of ice caps, glaciers, and snow, which can be consumed by humans.
5. The total human population on Earth accounts for 7% of all humans who have ever lived on the planet. The Population Reference Bureau claims that from 50,000 years ago until today, more than 108 billion members of the human species were born. This dates back to the first Homo sapiens to walk the earth.
6. The multi-million dollar skin care brand Olay was first known as Oil of Olay in the US in 1949. Graham Wulf, a chemist from South Africa, developed Olay as a variation of lanolin and tested it on his wife. The product improved the appearance of wrinkles and contributed to healthy-looking skin.
