This week the team has created some rather informative and interesting facts. Enjoy these facts and learn something new about the events occurring in our world.
1. The heart is the most important organ in our bodies, and it can now be replaced by a synthetic version. In 1985, Dr. Robert Jarvic created the first artificial heart. With the advancement of modern-day technology, the artificial heart has been improved over the decades and has saved many lives.
2. Barack Obama is the first African-American president of the United States of America. Barack Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States in 2008. The African American race has a history of slavery in America. When Barack Obama became president, he became a symbol of hope globally.
3. The famous Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo Da Vinci is not really the Mona Lisa. The model that is globally known as Mona Lisa in the legendary Mona Lisa painting is known as Gherardini Lisa del Gioconda. Lisa was a mother of five and the wife of a wealthy silk merchant, Francesco del Gioconda.
4. Global drought could end the world. Drought can compromise services such as food, fuel, and freshwater; regulate services such as pollination and pest regulation; and support services such as soil fertility and nutrient cycling. This could lead to mass starvation and the extinction of humans.
5. We unintentionally believe what we want to believe. As humans, we fall victim to a psychological phenomenon called “confirmation bias.” This is a tendency to understand things in a way that confirms what we already believe. It’s easier to do this than to admit that we are wrong about something.
6. The microwave was accidentally invented by a self-taught engineer. In 1945, Percy Spencer was leading a defense project for Raytheon. While testing a vacuum tube known as the Megnatron, he noticed that the chocolate in his pocket melted from the heat. The vacuum had an even better effect on popcorn.
