1. The Dragon’s Breath chilli pepper is extremely fiery (hot), it is basically lethal. If you had to eat one, it could possibly cause some sort of anaphylactic shock, scorching your airways and most likely closing them up. Although the pepper is toxic to humans, it is used in medicine as an anesthetic.
2. The very first social media networking site was founded by Andrew Weinreich in May 1996 and put into motion in 1997. Six Degrees combined features such as a friend’s list, profiles, and school affiliations. Unfortunately, due to a lack of people connected to the internet, networks were limited.
3. The Olympics was not always regarding sports. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the Modern Games, was thrilled with the idea of a true Olympian being a talented artist and sportsperson. In 1912 and 1948, thanks to him, rewards were distributed for sporting-inspired masterpieces of music and painting.
4. The rate at which your fingernails grow corresponds to the rate at which continents shift. Continents move millimetres at a time, the supercontinent Pangea took millions of years to break apart into landmasses. When under strain, the tectonic plates hit the throttle and speed up 20 times faster.
5. A turkey, now a popular part of Thanksgiving, was once, in 300 B.C., a bird that was worshipped as a vessel of the gods and honoured by the Mayan people. As in Maya iconography, turkeys were domesticated to play roles in religious rites and were symbolically associated with power and prestige.
6. Lip balm was first created by Charles Fleet in the mid-1800s, who marketed the first version as little waxy looking tubes wrapped in tinfoil. It was a successful venture, but after decades of wrapping, he sold his recipe to John Morton for the sum of five bucks, and John further funded Morton Manufacturing.
