1. Holding your breath above water will not kill you, but you will pass out, for sure. Once that happens, your body will automatically start breathing again because you are programmed to inhale and exhale. Did you know there are benefits to holding your breath? For example, increasing your lifespan.
2. Aristotle, the student of Plato and tutor of Alexander the Great, laid the foundation for science as we know it by recording the findings of his observations of the world. As Marie Curie (Nobel Prize laureate) once said, “Be less curious about people and more curious about ideas.”
3. The origin of a form of sport dates back at least 3000 years ago. Running and wrestling were amongst the most popular sports played in those times. Some sports involved the use of tools that humans needed for survival. Being active not only keeps your body in good shape, but it is also good for you socially.
4. As big as the Sahara Desert in Africa is, only about one quarter of it is sandy. The rest of it consists of gravel, mountains, and oases. It is also not the largest desert in the world, Antarctica is. Who said deserts are only hot and sandy?
5. In the past, women’s rights were generally not considered until the women’s suffrage movement. New Zealand became the first country to give women the right to vote. Since then, numerous other countries have followed.
6. Coca-Cola was invented by Dr. John S. Pemberton in 1886. It was originally advertised to ease headaches and exhaustion. Coke contained 9 mg of cocaine per glass, which has been removed since 1903.
