- President Joe Biden has pardoned all Americans who have been convicted of possessing minor quantities of marijuana on a national level. According to officials, roughly 6,500 offenders with federal convictions for possession will benefit. “Sending individuals to prison for marijuana possession has upended too many lives and incarcerated people for conduct that many states no longer prohibit”, said Biden. The President stated that federal pardons will ease the process of obtaining work, housing, and education for people.
- Svante Paabo of Sweden received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on deciphering the genetic code of human evolution. His work gets to the heart of some of the most fundamental concerns, such as where we came from and what allowed us, Homo sapiens, to thrive while our cousins died out. He also accomplished the “sensational” achievement of uncovering Denisovans, a previously unknown relative. - According to US President Joe Biden, the prospect of nuclear “Armageddon” has escalated since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. The US and the EU have already stated that Mr. Putin’s nuclear threats should be taken seriously. Despite Russia’s nuclear hints, the US has not detected any evidence that Russia is about to prepare to deploy a nuclear weapon, according to Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor for the US.

The vehicles, according to the company Cruise, will redefine commuting. However, skeptics argue that allowing self driving taxis on city streets is both perilous and premature. Free rides in Cruise’s self-driving vehicles were already available, but this move enables the company to begin fully autonomous commercial operations in the Bay Area.
- “Trapped inside a block of stone”, the evolutionary secrets of a 230-million-year-old fossil lizard have been exposed. The researchers examined the fossil, which was discovered in Scotland a century ago. Scientists believe that this little, scurrying Triassic reptile is the ancestor of the huge, winged pterodactyl. Their research yielded the first complete skeleton reconstruction of the organism Scleromochlus. The organism is part of the Elgin reptiles, a group of Triassic-era fossils discovered in Lossiemouth, near Elgin, Moray, in the 1900s.
- For businesses looking to search for oil and gas in the North Sea, the UK has opened a new licensing round. Up to 100 exploration permits could be granted over 900 areas that are being made available for exploration. The choice is in contrast with the opinions of global climate cycle, who believed that fossil fuel projects should be scaled back rather than increased. They claim that no new projects can be undertaken. According to Business Secretary, the additional exploration will increase energy security and promote skilled jobs.
