- Spotify has begun removing Neil Young’s music after the rock star demanded that the streaming service choose between him and podcaster Joe Rogan. On Monday, the Canadian-American musician accused Spotify of “spreading fake information about vaccines.” Young is not the first person to express reservations about the content of Rogan’s podcast. A group of doctors, scientists, and healthcare professionals signed an open letter to Spotify last month, citing Rogan’s “concerning history” in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Australian scientists claim to have discovered an unrecognised object spinning in the Milky Way. Tyrone O’Doherty, an honours student at Curtin University, discovered the object, which has been observed to emit massive burst of radio energy every 18 minutes. He was a team player led by astrophysicist Dr Natasha Hurley-Walker of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR). According to ICRAR, the object is approximately 4,000 light-years from Earth, extremely bright, and has an extremely strong magnetic field.
- According to a report, human drivers should not be held legally responsible for road safety in the age of self-driving cars. According with law commissions for England, Wales, and Scotland, the driver in these vehicles should be redefined as a “user-in-charge” with distinct legal responsibilities. If a problem occurs, the company behind the driving system will be held liable, not the driver. A system should clarify if a vehicle is self-driving and show distinction between driverless and driver-assist features. Cars are either driverless or not.
- On the two-year anniversary of the tragedy, sculptor Dan Medina brought a statue of legend Kobe Bryant, former player of the Los Angeles Lakers, and his daughter Gianna to the location of their helicopter crash. From morning till night on Wednesday, he took the statue to the California site where nine people died. The names of the nine crash victims are engraved on the base of the statue, that also includes an inscription of Bryant’s classic line, “Heroes come and go, but legends last forever.”
- Elon Musk likes to have a focus, and it appears that robots will be one of them this year. On a Tesla earnings call, he told investors that his newly formed robot plans had “the potential to be more substantial than the vehicle business over time.” Mr. Musk stated that the Tesla Bot would use the same artificial-intelligence (AI) systems that power Tesla vehicles, but no prototype has been created. The yet-to-be-built 5ft 8in robot would have a screen on its face and be capable of lifting 150lb, and travel at a speed of about 5mph.
- To commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day, portraits of seven of the UK’s last remaining Holocaust survivors are on display at the Queen’s Gallery. The portraits, states Prince of Wales, will serve as a “daily reminder” of their experiences. The portraits were commissioned by Prince Charles as a lasting reminder of the horrors of the Nazi regime during World War II, and homage to the Jewish refugees who made Britain their home. He was moved by an Auschwitz survivor who showed him her concentration camp tattoo at the unveiling event.
