- India has always been a famous tourist destination for its stunning palaces, historic forts, and dense jungles. Now, a lesser known gorge in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh is drawing visitors’ attention. The gorge is an amazing maze of jagged rocks layered in shades of red. The Penna river meanders through the canyon floor as it splits through the Erramala hills. The area is now known as the Grand Canyon of India because it resembles the famous USA landmark.
- Dinosaur footprints found on a beach in South Wales are actually a “trackway” of footprints dating back more than 200 million years, as researchers said. It is believed that the footprints are from an early ancestor of the giant Diplodocus, and date back to the Triassic period. The footprints have been scanned using state-of-the-art 3D imaging technology.
- As the holidays are over and Christmas trees start to drop their needles, farmers are getting crafty and recycling Christmas trees.They say the trees become a tasty treat for their livestock, once they have outlived their lifespan in our living rooms. Staff at Kentish Town City Farm are helping to reuse the Christmas trees and giving their goats a treat at the same time. Feeding the goats Christmas trees developed a way to give the animals natural food during the colder months.
- The share price of Apple has increased by around 5,800% since former chief executive Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone in 2007. Apple has been one of the big winners of the pandemic, as coronavirus lockdowns saw spending on gadgets jump. It took over 16 months for Apple’s stock market to rise from $2tn to $3tn, as the world’s biggest technology companies saw demand rise as people became more reliant on smartphones and laptops during lockdowns.
- An autonomous drone helped to save the life of a 71-year-old man who was suffering a cardiac arrest. The drone helped the man by delivering a defibrillator to a doctor , who became ill while shovelling snow outside his house in Trollhattan, Sweden. Over the four-month study, the Karolinska researchers found that drones were dispatched to 12 out of 14 cases of suspected cardiac arrest, and successfully delivered an AED in all but one. Drones are already used by some UK emergency services.
- Denmark’s government has announced the aim of making domestic flights fossil fuel free by 2030. Denmark’s goal to cut 70% in overall carbon emissions by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.The European manufacturer Airbus has announced plans to develop hydrogen-fuelled aircrafts that could be operated by 2035. If the hydrogen used to fuel aircrafts is generated using renewable energy, this could be a way for Denmark to reach its goals.
