3. Before anesthetics were developed, surgery was rarely administered and was mostly done as a final resort. In 1846, William TG Morton made a profound leap in medicine when he used ether as an anesthetic in surgery. We have come a long way to get to the current painless methods of surgery.

5. The first ever international rugby match was played between England and Scotland in 1871. The sport originated during a football game at Rugby School in England in 1823 when a young William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it to the goal posts. For his rebellious act, he was rewarded with the Rugby World Cup Trophy being named after him.
