ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM THESE SYMPTOMS:

Feeling anxious every now and again is okay. If you’re able to manage, great, but if you find yourself feeling:

  • Restless.
  • Fatigued quite easily.
  • Like it’s difficult to concentrate.
  • Irritable.
  • As though your muscles are tense.
  • Like your sleep is disturbed.

YOU MAY BE SUFFERING FROM:

If you’re experiencing these symptoms for a long period of time (at least 6 months) and it’s interfering with your daily life, then you likely have GAD. A doctor or qualified mental health specialist will ask you specific questions to find out if you, indeed, have this disorder. For the doctor to make a correct diagnosis, you will have to give him/her as many details as possible.

SOLUTION

In the case of typical anxiety, mindfulness exercises and any other form of relaxation (e.g. meditation) can help slow down the racing thoughts.

In the case of an anxiety disorder, your doctor or counsellor can either prescribe medication or enrol you for therapy sessions which are used to help you cope with the anxiety in your daily life.

REMEMBER

NB: Just because you need psychological health, does not make you a weak person. You’re actually ahead of everyone because you’re keeping your mental health in check.
